Monarch says refusal to pay ransom sent a strong message to kidnappers, urges sustained security presence in Oyo forests.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has commended President Bola Tinubu and security agencies for the successful rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State, describing the operation as a major turning point in Nigeria’s fight against kidnapping.

Speaking during a thank-you visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, the monarch said Oyo residents initially feared the abduction would become another prolonged national tragedy similar to the Chibok schoolgirls’ case.

Ladoja praised the Federal Government for securing the victims’ freedom without paying ransom, saying the decision demonstrated strong leadership and sent a clear message that the government would not negotiate with criminals.

According to him, the successful rescue has restored public confidence and marked a significant breakthrough in tackling kidnapping across the country.

The traditional ruler, who chairs the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, also appealed to the Federal Government to strengthen security operations in the Oyo forest reserves where the victims were held, urging authorities not to withdraw security personnel from the area.

The abducted students and teachers spent 56 days in captivity before they regained their freedom during a security operation.
