Nigeria reaffirms commitment to deeper cooperation with Colombia ahead of Abelardo de la Espriella’s inauguration on August 7.

The Federal Government has congratulated Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, on his electoral victory ahead of his inauguration scheduled for August 7.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government described the election outcome as a reflection of the democratic will of the Colombian people and expressed its readiness to work closely with the incoming administration.

The statement, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, noted that Nigeria and Colombia share a longstanding commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development.

It reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening existing ties between both countries, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, security and South-South cooperation.

According to the Federal Government, the administration of President-elect de la Espriella presents an opportunity to further deepen bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The government also expressed confidence that the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Colombia would continue to flourish under the new administration.

Nigeria wished the President-elect a successful tenure and expressed optimism that his leadership would advance peace, progress and prosperity for the Colombian people.

De la Espriella is expected to be officially sworn in as Colombia’s president on August 7.
