Works minister says massive infrastructure investment is boosting employment, local businesses and economic growth across Nigeria.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said the Federal Government’s ongoing road infrastructure projects under President Bola Tinubu are creating thousands of jobs, stimulating economic activities and helping to reduce hunger across the country.
Umahi made the remarks on Friday during an inspection of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Superhighway project in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to the minister, the administration’s infrastructure drive is providing direct employment through construction while creating business opportunities for communities along project corridors.
“When people talk about hunger in this country, they should understand that the activities created by the President’s infrastructural development serve as a direct catalyst for addressing that challenge,” Umahi said.
He noted that the project has employed hundreds of workers, while local traders, suppliers of construction materials and service providers continue to benefit economically.
Umahi also said the Federal Government’s adoption of reinforced concrete pavement for major highways is strengthening the local economy by relying on locally sourced materials rather than imports.
“The introduction of reinforced concrete pavement is not only about durability; it is vital for our economic revolution because virtually nothing is imported,” he stated, adding that cement manufacturers are expanding production and creating more jobs.
The minister appealed for public support, stressing that years of infrastructure deficits could not be addressed within a few years. He urged Nigerians to recognise the progress being made across different sectors under the current administration.
He further called on media organisations to highlight ongoing government projects, describing the Calabar–Abuja Superhighway as a transformative project that will improve connectivity, reduce travel time and unlock economic opportunities across the country.
