Team Nigeria concluded its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with a seventh-place finish on the final medals table, emerging as the highest-ranked African nation at the competition.

Nigeria won 24 medals comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze to secure a place among the top 10 countries at the Games. The final standings were confirmed on the official Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games medals table after the close of competition on Sunday.

Esther Nworgu delivered Nigeria’s first gold medal with a dominant display in the women’s lightweight para powerlifting event.

Other gold medallists included Ezekiel Nathaniel in the men’s 400m hurdles, Goodness Nwachukwu, who broke her own world record to win the women’s F42 discus throw, Idris Riluwan in para powerlifting, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who made history in the men’s shot put.

Sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan also contributed to Nigeria’s medal tally, overcoming injury to claim bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Australia topped the medals table with 171 medals, made up of 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze. England finished second with 110 medals, while Canada placed third with 62 medals.

India and hosts Scotland completed the top five with 39 medals each, while New Zealand finished sixth with 36 medals, just ahead of Nigeria.

Nigeria’s haul of 10 gold medals ensured it finished above every other African nation at the Games.

Jamaica finished eighth, Wales placed ninth, and Malaysia completed the top 10. South Africa ended 11th with 28 medals, while Kenya finished 13th with 12 medals.

Other African nations on the medals table included Mauritius, Cameroon, Uganda, Namibia, Ghana, Lesotho, Zambia and Gabon.

Nigeria’s performance marks one of its strongest outings at the Commonwealth Games, reinforcing its status as one of the continent’s leading sporting nations.
