Commission sets August 14 deadline for memoranda on abduction of 46 pupils and teachers and security response.

The Oyo State Government has invited members of the public to submit memoranda to the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The government made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday, urging individuals with relevant information about the incident and the security response to come forward.

The commission is investigating the abduction of pupils, students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities, as well as events leading to, during and after the incident.

The deadline for submission of memoranda is Friday, August 14, 2026.

According to the government, each submission must contain the contributor’s full name, contact details and any supporting documents relevant to the information provided.

Memoranda can be submitted physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, or electronically through oysjceoriireabduction@gmail.com.

The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area — Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele; Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; and L.A. Primary School.

A total of 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted during the attack and spent 56 days in captivity before their rescue in July.

The victims were rescued by security agencies without any concession to the abductors, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Following the victims’ release, Governor Seyi Makinde called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the security response.

The state government said the ongoing inquiry was aimed at establishing the circumstances of the incident and examining the response of security agencies before, during and after the attack.

It urged anyone with relevant information to submit their memoranda before the August 14 deadline, stressing its commitment to protecting communities across the state.
