Fanny Amun-led committee gets two weeks to uncover causes of Nigeria’s recent football setbacks and recommend solutions.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has inaugurated a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent poor performances of Nigeria’s national teams, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, inaugurated the committee on Monday and charged members to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the factors responsible for the setbacks.

The committee has two weeks to complete its assignment and submit its report, which is expected to include recommendations for addressing the challenges affecting Nigerian football.

Gusau urged the members to examine both the direct and remote causes of the national teams’ poor outings, describing the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the World Cup as particularly unexpected.

Former NFF Technical Director Fanny Amun, who chairs the committee, pledged that members would approach the assignment with diligence and a strong sense of responsibility. He said the panel would engage stakeholders connected to the issues and accept memoranda from interested members of the public.

Other members of the committee are former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju, former Nigeria U-20 coach Ladan Bosso and former FIFA referee Alex Mana.

Former Nigeria international and NFF Technical Department deputy director, Nasiru Jibril, is the secretary.

The committee was constituted after the Super Falcons failed to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, ending Nigeria’s record of appearing at every edition of the tournament since its inception in 1991.
