Plateau governor condemns attack as barbaric and assures residents government will protect their ancestral land.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has visited Bin Mper Community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area following a gunmen attack that killed 25 people and injured several others.

The attack occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with Mutfwang visiting the community on Thursday to sympathise with residents and families of the victims.

Describing the killings as barbaric, senseless and unacceptable, the governor assured residents that his administration would strengthen security measures to prevent further attacks.

Mutfwang said some suspects had been arrested and vowed that the investigation would be pursued to its logical conclusion. He also assured residents that the government would do everything within its powers to protect them and prevent the takeover of their ancestral land.

The governor said the attack was a direct challenge to the government’s responsibility to protect lives and property, adding that additional security strategies would be adopted to safeguard vulnerable communities.

Earlier, Mutfwang received a security briefing from the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Nigerian Army, where he called for proactive, intelligence-led and coordinated measures to prevent further attacks.

He also visited the paramount ruler of Mangu, the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, Da John Putmang Hirse, to condole with him over the killings.

Hirse described the attack as deliberate and senseless, saying the victims were asleep when they were killed. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Mwaghavul people to peace and lawfulness, despite the attack.

Mutfwang commended Plateau youths for supporting efforts to protect their communities and urged them to remain peaceful, vigilant and cooperative with security agencies.

He condoled with the families of the victims and prayed for the recovery of those injured in the attack.
