Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died.
The 66-year-old Yoruba movie star died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling stage-four cancer.

His death was confirmed by his daughter, Kaira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram live session on Sunday. Multiple reports have also confirmed the development.
The actor’s death comes less than a week after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father.
On Monday, August 17, the sisters took to social media to seek help from medical professionals and others who could recommend treatment options for the veteran actor.
Kaira had disclosed that her father was battling stage-four cancer and that doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered due to his condition.
The family subsequently explored other treatment options as they sought to save the actor’s life.
Before his death, the development sparked an outpouring of support from colleagues and fans. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko had revealed that more than 500 people offered to assist Ogogo with medical, spiritual and other forms of intervention.
Ogogo’s death also comes after a previous false report of his demise circulated on social media on August 18. At the time, his daughter, Lima, dismissed the report as fake and urged the public to stop spreading unverified information.
Reacting to his death, fellow actor Saheed Balogun mourned the veteran in an Instagram post.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful.”
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades. He was widely recognised for his work as an actor, filmmaker and producer and featured in hundreds of Nigerian films.
