Military authorities dismiss viral footage as fake, warn Nigerians against spreading AI-generated content capable of misleading the public.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, making comments suggesting support for a political interest.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the DHQ said the video was fabricated using artificial intelligence and did not originate from the Defence Chief.
The military urged Nigerians to disregard the video and the statements attributed to Oluyede, describing them as false and misleading.
According to the DHQ, the manipulated footage was apparently created to deceive the public, misrepresent the position of the and damage the reputation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The military authorities therefore advised the public to be cautious about sharing unverified digital content, particularly materials capable of undermining confidence in the Armed Forces and misleading Nigerians.
