16 Men, Two Women Listed as Presidential Candidates; Four Female Vice-Presidential Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of presidential candidates and their running mates for the January 2027 general elections.

The list, signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, was released in Abuja on Saturday and contains candidates sponsored by 18 political parties.

INEC said 16 of the presidential candidates are male, while two are female.

The presidential candidates include Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Others on the list include Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party, Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party, Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party and candidates of the Action Alliance, Action Democratic Party, Allied Peoples Party, Boot Party, Democratic Leadership Alliance, National Rescue Movement, Zenith Labour Party and Young Progressive Party.

The two female presidential candidates listed by the commission are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement.

INEC also listed 18 vice-presidential candidates, comprising 14 men and four women.

The female running mates are Peace Egobia Ofordile of the Allied Peoples Party, Nafisat Usaku Abubakar of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Hajja Bintu Konto of the Labour Party and Patience Ndidi Key of the Young Progressive Party.

The commission also released the final lists of candidates contesting the Senate and House of Representatives elections.
