Event to Focus on Food Security, Integrated Farming, Women and Youth Empowerment
The Oyo State chapter of the Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria (CAFFAN) will mark its 20th anniversary alongside World Fisheries Day 2026 with a three-day programme focused on urban aquaculture, integrated farming and economic empowerment.
The programme, scheduled for November 19 to 21, 2026, will hold at Immanuel College of Theology, Samonda, Ibadan, from 9am daily.
With the theme, “Urban Aquaculture and Integrated Farming: Driving Food Security, Circular Economy, and Women & Youth Empowerment,” the event will bring together farmers, entrepreneurs, students, investors and other stakeholders in the fisheries and agricultural value chain.
CAFFAN Oyo said the anniversary would provide an opportunity to reflect on its two decades of impact and explore emerging opportunities in fisheries and aquaculture.
A major highlight will be an agricultural and fisheries exhibition featuring equipment, fish feed, fingerlings, fish-processing technologies, fresh and smoked fish, and other farm produce.
The programme will also feature knowledge-sharing sessions and panel discussions on urban aquaculture and integrated farming, with emphasis on practical opportunities for existing farmers and new entrants.
As part of its empowerment initiative, the association will offer free fish-smoking training covering modern smoking techniques, improved processing, handling and packaging, value addition and opportunities for fish processing as a sustainable source of income.
The programme will begin on Thursday, November 19, with registration and the opening ceremony, followed by the World Fisheries Day address and a keynote session on urban aquaculture and integrated farming.
The exhibition, training sessions and other activities will continue until Saturday, November 21.
CAFFAN Oyo said participation is free and invited farmers, women, youths, entrepreneurs, students, buyers, suppliers, financiers and other interested members of the public to attend, noting that spaces are limited and available on a first-registered basis.
