Trionda, the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will reportedly be plugged in and charged before matches kick off.

The technologically advanced ball, manufactured by Adidas, contains a lightweight 14-gram sensor capable of lasting up to six hours on a full charge.

According to reports, the ball is equipped with built-in 500Hz motion sensors designed to provide precise real-time tracking data for the VAR system, helping officials make accurate offside and goal-line decisions during matches.

Unlike the sensor used during the 2022 World Cup, which was embedded within the ball’s internal wiring, the updated technology in Trionda is now integrated directly into one of the ball’s panels.

The system works alongside 12 stadium cameras to monitor the movement of both the ball and players up to 50 times per second.

The collected data is transmitted instantly to Video Assistant Referee officials and used for advanced match decision-making technology.

Named after the Spanish phrase for “three waves,” Trionda’s design celebrates the three host nations of the 2026 World Cup — Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The ball also features a bold aerodynamic four-panel design inspired by the colours and symbols of the host countries.
