Three vigilantes killed as protesters block Jos-Barkin Ladi highway
The Plateau State Government has assured motorists and other road users of safe passage along the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway following an attack in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, that left three vigilantes dead.

The attack, which reportedly occurred around 1am on Friday, sparked protests by women and youths who blocked the highway, causing traffic congestion and leaving some travellers stranded for hours.
The protesters were said to be demanding improved security following repeated attacks in the area.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state government condemned the killings as “deeply regrettable and unacceptable” and sympathised with the victims’ families.
The government said security agencies were working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack and prevent further incidents.
It appealed to residents to avoid blocking the highway, warning that such action could expose travellers to further danger.
“Government wishes to assure travellers that the road is clear and open to motorists and other road users,” the statement said.
The government urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies while continuing with their lawful activities.
The spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the killings, describing them as disturbing.
Tengwong said the victims were killed while protecting their community, adding that their deaths had increased fear among residents and weakened local security efforts.
He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the attackers and strengthen protection for communities in Barkin Ladi and other vulnerable areas.
Security personnel were subsequently deployed to the area to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies and communities to strengthen security and promote peace across Plateau State.
