JNPSNC Directs Public Servants Across Federal, State and Local Governments to Join Action
Public service workers under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have commenced a three-day warning strike over what the council described as worsening economic and mental hardship affecting workers and their dependants.
The strike began at midnight on Friday, October 2, and is scheduled to end on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The directive was contained in a circular dated October 1 and signed by the National Secretary of the JNPSNC, Olowoyo Gbenga, who directed the council’s national and state leaders to mobilise workers for the action.
The council said the strike followed the Federal Government’s alleged failure to address requests contained in a September 21 letter to President Bola Tinubu.
It directed public servants across the federal, state and local government services to participate in the strike, citing the rising cost of living and its impact on workers, dependants and vulnerable Nigerians.
The JNPSNC had previously demanded measures to cushion the effects of rising living costs, including a reduction in petrol prices to ₦500 per litre, an immediate wage award and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage ahead of 2027.
The council also called for the establishment of a tripartite committee to negotiate the new minimum wage.
The industrial action comes amid concerns over rising prices of essential goods, transportation and other household expenses.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Ministry of Labour were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
