Commission Says Disputed Document Falsely Names Rochas Okorocha as Party’s Senatorial Candidate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged fake report of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election circulating on social media.

The disputed document purportedly names Senator Rochas Okorocha as the APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

In separate letters dated October 5 and 8, 2026, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Chukwuemeka Ibeziako, described the document as fraudulent and inconsistent with the report allegedly signed and submitted to INEC’s national headquarters.

According to Ibeziako, the authentic report, dated May 18, 2026, identified Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma as the winner and duly elected APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

INEC said it attached copies of the authentic report and the disputed document to its petitions as Annexures A and B, respectively. It urged the security agencies to investigate the circulation of the document and take appropriate action.

The commission warned that the alleged conduct could undermine law and order in Imo State and called on the DSS and police to intervene.
