A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Dr. Matthew Uwuigbe, has died after reportedly collapsing in a hotel room following an alleged sexual encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker.
The incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, Uwuigbe had checked into the hotel with the woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob, before reportedly becoming unconscious.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the command received a report about the lecturer’s death on October 5, 2026.
She said Uwuigbe had allegedly engaged the services of the woman and subsequently sent her to purchase water. Upon her return, she reportedly found him dead in the hotel room.
Ikoedem said three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, including the hotel owner, manager and the 21-year-old woman.
She added that the corpse had been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death continues.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed that Uwuigbe was a staff member of the institution.
However, he stressed that the incident occurred outside the university premises and involved the lecturer’s private life.
He also clarified that the woman involved was not a student of the university.
