The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement APM in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has pledged to sustain and strengthen policies supporting teachers and the education sector if elected governor in the 2027 governorship election.
Adekanmbi made the pledge in a statement issued on Sunday by the APM governorship Director of Communication/Spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, in Ibadan, to mark the 2026 Teachers’ Day.

He described teachers as the “true builders of the nation,” praising their dedication to nurturing young minds and shaping future leaders.
Adekanmbi said the development of any country was closely tied to the quality of its teachers, adding that their contributions had helped improve educational standards in Oyo State.
He also claimed that Oyo currently ranks third nationwide in recent National Examinations Council performance metrics, attributing the feat to the dedication and professionalism of teachers.
“As we celebrate this year’s Teachers’ Day, I honour the incredible men and women who shape minds, build character, and light the path to a brighter future. Teachers do far more than teach academic lessons; they teach resilience, kindness, critical thinking, and belief in one’s potential,” he said.
The APM candidate pledged to maintain prompt payment of teachers’ salaries, including the monthly payment on the 25th, popularly known as GSM Day.
He also promised to sustain the 27.5 per cent teaching allowance, leave bonuses and 13th-month salary bonuses, while continuing the promotion and upgrading of teachers in line with global standards.
Adekanmbi further pledged to expand leadership opportunities for educators, including appointments as Permanent Secretaries, Tutors General and Inspectors General.
“My administration would build on these gains and introduce new reforms to further empower teachers and elevate the education sector. Teachers are the architects of Oyo’s future, and under Omituntun 3.0, they will continue to receive the respect, support, and opportunities they deserve,” he said.
