Troops recovered weapons, ammunition and motorcycles in Katsina, while air and ground forces killed several terrorists and destroyed 10 motorcycles in Kukawa, Borno.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a key terrorist lieutenant in Katsina State and foiled an attempted attack on Kukawa town in Borno State in separate operations.

In Katsina, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA engaged terrorists during a clearance operation in Matazu Local Government Area on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The Joint Task Force said the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee. One terrorist, identified as “Smally”, described as a lieutenant to notorious terrorist leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, was killed.

The troops recovered three machine guns, two AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition and six motorcycles allegedly used by the terrorists.

In Borno, troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelled a terrorist attack on Kukawa after terrorists attacked the 101 Special Forces Battalion at about 10:50pm on Friday.

The military said several terrorists were killed as troops responded with ground fire, forcing the attackers to retreat towards the Cross Kauwa axis.

Air strikes were subsequently carried out based on intelligence tracking fleeing terrorists. The military said an estimated 25 terrorists were killed in two air operations, while 10 motorcycles were destroyed.

Ground troops later recovered additional motorcycles, ammunition and other items.

Four soldiers sustained injuries during the engagement but were said to be in stable condition after being evacuated for medical treatment.

The military said the operations disrupted the terrorists’ plans, prevented them from regrouping and further degraded their mobility and fighting capability.
