Arsenal came from a goal down to defeat Chelsea 2-1 in a thrilling Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea an early lead after just 77 seconds, but Kai Havertz equalised in the 25th minute before Martin Odegaard completed Arsenal’s comeback five minutes after the restart.
The victory maintained Arsenal’s perfect start to the season, with Mikel Arteta’s side winning all three league matches and sitting second behind Manchester City on goal difference.
Rogers put Chelsea ahead with a low volley from the edge of the box after Reece James’ free-kick was not properly cleared by Declan Rice and Odegaard.
Havertz restored parity when he drifted into the Chelsea box unchecked before firing a low effort through Maxence Lacroix’s legs and past goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Chelsea almost regained the lead before half-time, but Pedro Neto’s effort struck the far post.
Arsenal completed the turnaround in the 50th minute after Christos Tzolis played an incisive pass through the Chelsea defence. Havertz’s clever dummy allowed the ball to reach Odegaard, who calmly slotted home from close range.
Chelsea missed late chances to level, with Malo Gusto firing over and David Raya saving Estevao Willian’s powerful effort.
The defeat ended Xabi Alonso’s three-game winning run since taking charge of Chelsea and handed Arsenal an important early-season victory over one of their emerging title rivals.
