Akobundu Named DG as Dele Momodu Heads Media and Communications Directorate

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has approved the composition of the party’s National Campaign Council and Presidential Campaign Management Committee ahead of the 2027 election.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Strategic Communications, Phrank Shaibu, the structure is designed to reflect the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

The National Campaign Council will be chaired by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, with former Kaduna State Governor and ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, serving as Deputy Chairman.

Senator Austin Akobundu was named Director-General and Campaign Manager, with responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of the campaign.

The campaign will operate through six major directorates, each headed by a Deputy Director-General, with 30 directors assigned specific responsibilities.

Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu will head the Media and Communications Directorate, overseeing media operations across traditional, broadcast and digital platforms.

The statement also named Dino Melaye as part of the campaign structure, citing his political experience and public engagement in national outreach and mobilisation.

The Policy Team will be headed by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi as Deputy Chairman and Aare Aremijoye as Secretary. Former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor Professor Kingsley Moghalu will also serve on the team.

The Campaign Advisory Council will be chaired by former Edo State Governor and pioneer APC National Chairman John Oyegun. Former Senator Ben Obi and Lawal Batagarawa were named Deputy Chairmen, while Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, will serve as Secretary.

Shaibu said the campaign would focus on issues including food, transportation and energy costs, unemployment, insecurity, declining purchasing power and governance.
