The suit filed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar seeking to disqualify President Bola Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election over an alleged discrepancy in his NYSC certificate has been adjourned by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The suit, filed on Friday by Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), challenges President Tinubu’s eligibility to seek another term in office.

At the mention of the case, counsel to the plaintiff, Joseph Onu, told the court that he had been unable to personally serve the defendant with the originating summons.
Onu said he wanted to serve President Tinubu directly or through substituted service.
However, an attempt by counsel to the President to receive the originating summons on his behalf was rejected by Onu, who insisted that service must be effected directly on the defendant or through substituted means approved by the court.
Atiku’s suit centres on an alleged discrepancy in the name appearing on the NYSC discharge certificate submitted by Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The plaintiffs contend that the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” while the President is officially known as President Bola Tinubu.”
They are asking the court to determine whether the alleged discrepancy affects Tinubu’s constitutional qualification to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, after hearing arguments from the parties, adjourned the matter to September 28 for further mention.
