Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season after an outstanding campaign with Manchester United.

The Portuguese midfielder equalled the record for most assists in a single Premier League season with 20 assists, matching achievements previously set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Fernandes also scored eight league goals this season, helping Manchester United finish third and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The 31-year-old becomes the first Manchester United player to win the award since Nemanja Vidic claimed it during the 2010/11 season.

Fernandes beat several top contenders to the award, including David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Igor Thiago and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The United captain had earlier been named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.

Meanwhile, Nico O’Reilly of Manchester City won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award after an impressive breakthrough campaign.

The 21-year-old impressed at left-back and midfield, recording five goals and three assists during the season.
