Federal High Court Restrains Electoral Commission From Interfering With Party’s ‘Two-Finger’ Symbol
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to approve and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for elections conducted by the commission.
The court also restrained INEC from stopping or interfering with the party’s use of its digitally designed “two-finger” victory sign as its official logo.
The judgment, delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik, followed a suit filed by the NDC after it alleged that INEC removed the modified logo from its database and restored the old association logo under which the party was initially registered.
NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the party’s National Executive Committee approved the modified logo on March 25, 2026, and forwarded it to INEC.
According to him, the commission initially uploaded the new logo but later removed it and reinstated the old logo without providing a reason. The party said it resorted to litigation after attempts to resolve the matter administratively failed.
Justice Abdulmalik subsequently ordered INEC to approve the modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for the NDC’s official use in all elections.
The approved design features a two-finger victory sign on a blue background with “NDC” written in red.
The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from interfering with the party’s use of the symbol.
Reacting to the judgment, Director directed all NDC candidates and members to immediately adopt the approved logo on campaign materials, including banners and posters, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
