The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned young Nigerian girls against sextortion and involvement in cybercrime, urging them to protect their integrity and avoid being exploited by internet fraudsters.
The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, gave the warning on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Abuja at an event organised by the African Girl Guild to mark the International Day of the Girl Child. He was represented by the Head of the commission’s Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit, Assistant Commander Aisha Muhammed.

Speaking on the theme, “Invest in Her, Empower Her and Let Her Lead,” Olukoyede said criminals often exploit vulnerable moments in relationships to extort money from young women. He urged girls to exercise caution in relationships and protect themselves from sextortionists.
He also warned against cybercrime, including allowing internet fraudsters to use their bank accounts and engaging in online blackmail, saying such activities could lead to prosecution and damage Nigeria’s image.
Olukoyede encouraged girls to acquire practical skills such as coding, tailoring, baking, technology and content creation, while earning money legally and developing good saving habits. He advised them not to allow anyone to use their accounts for fraudulent transactions.
The EFCC chairman said financial independence could help young women resist exploitation and make responsible decisions about their futures.
He added that the commission had established Integrity Clubs and Zero Tolerance Clubs in schools across the country to promote ethical conduct, urging the girls to become ambassadors of integrity in their schools and communities.
