First Lady calls for greater opportunities and an enabling environment for young Nigerians to realise their potential
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to harness education, innovation and entrepreneurship in pursuing their aspirations and contributing to national development.
Mrs Tinubu made the call in her message marking the 2026 International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12 to highlight issues affecting young people and promote their participation in society.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” the First Lady said young people around the world, despite differences in their backgrounds and circumstances, share common aspirations for quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities and a sustainable future.
She encouraged Nigerian youths to remain focused and hardworking despite prevailing challenges, urging them to embrace productive engagement and active citizenship.
“I encourage our youth to remain focused and hardworking. Use education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship to pursue your dreams, fulfil your potential, and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu also called on government, institutions and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment that would allow young people to develop their potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
She urged stakeholders to renew their commitment to supporting and empowering young Nigerians by expanding opportunities for education, employment, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The First Lady wished Nigerian youths and young people across the world a happy International Youth Day.
