Toyota Camry collides head-on with Iveco truck at Mowo Bus Stop as LASEMA blames speeding and reckless driving.

Five adult men have been killed in an early morning road crash involving a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

The accident occurred at Sawmill, near Mowo Bus Stop, in the early hours of Saturday when the Toyota Camry, with registration number FKJ 630KS, collided head-on with the Iveco truck, registered T28081 LA.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call at 5:16am and immediately deployed its Dolphin Team from the Igando Base.

According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by over-speeding and reckless driving by the Camry driver, who reportedly lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming truck.

“The impact of the collision resulted in the death of five adult males who were occupants of the Toyota Camry,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The victims’ remains were recovered from the wreckage and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for further necessary action.

The rescue and recovery operation involved LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA, FRSC and officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Morogbo Division.

Two tow trucks were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles from the expressway. LASEMA said the recovery operation was completed and the vehicles were taken to the Morogbo Police Division.

The agency added that the affected section of the road had been cleared and fully reopened to traffic.

Oke-Osanyintolu commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking and other reckless driving practices, particularly during the early morning hours.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility and adherence to traffic regulations remains critical to saving lives on Lagos roads,” he said.
