Mitsubishi Truck Rams Moving HOWO Vehicle While Overtaking Near Ipara Remo
Four people have been killed in a fatal road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, Ogun State.
The crash occurred at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday and involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said eight people were involved in the crash. Four male adults died, one male adult sustained injuries, while three others escaped unhurt.
According to the FRSC, preliminary investigation showed that speeding and wrongful overtaking caused the crash, with fatigue also identified as a contributing factor.
The Mitsubishi driver was reportedly travelling at high speed when the vehicle rammed into the moving HOWO truck while attempting to overtake.
The FRSC said its rescue team received the distress call at 4:33 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 4:39 a.m., recording a six-minute response time.
The injured victim was taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
The vehicles were handed over to the Police Motor Traffic Division, Isara Division, for further investigation.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and unsafe overtaking, particularly during early-morning journeys.
He advised drivers to rest adequately before long-distance trips and overtake only when it is safe and permissible.
