Suspects allegedly issued Jigawa State revenue receipts while collecting funds in Gombe.
The Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) has arrested two suspects for allegedly conducting illegal revenue collection using Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals across the state.
The suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation by the agency’s Intelligence Department.
According to GIRS, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly issued receipts bearing the name of Jigawa State while collecting revenue within Gombe.
The agency said the suspects have been handed over to security agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Executive Chairman of GIRS, Aisha Adamu, condemned the alleged illegal collections, describing the activities as a breach capable of undermining the state’s revenue system.
Adamu commended the agency’s Intelligence Department, Internal Control and Monitoring Team, as well as security personnel, for their efforts to protect public funds.
In a statement by the Head of Corporate Communications, Faruk Mu’azu Gombe, GIRS urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspected fraudulent revenue collectors or unauthorised POS collections to the relevant authorities.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with security agencies to dismantle illegal revenue collection syndicates and safeguard Gombe State’s revenue.
