Governor Says Monarchs Who Interfere in Politics Will Be Treated as Politicians
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged traditional rulers in the state to stay away from partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Makinde gave the warning on Saturday in Eruwa after he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland.
The governor, who is also the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), urged traditional rulers to remain apolitical and embrace all political actors without bias.
“I appeal to our Kabiyesis to steer clear of partisan politics and to embrace all political actors without bias. Any monarch who interferes in politics or political matters will be treated as a politician,” he warned.
Governor Makinde said his presidential ambition would not be limited to any particular region, adding that he would take his message of good governance and development across Nigeria.
He said his APM presidential campaign would involve extensive engagement with Nigerians across the country as part of the emerging political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor thanked the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, and the people of Ibarapaland for the honour, describing the chieftaincy title as a responsibility to serve and contribute to national development.
He also appreciated the traditional institution for its support and prayers, pledging to uphold the values of service, unity and development.
