Amupitan urges neutrality, professionalism as Commission assesses readiness in North-West

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken its 2027 General Election readiness assessment to the North-West, with Chairman Professor Joash O. Amupitan, SAN, directing officials to address operational gaps ahead of the polls.

Amupitan gave the charge on Monday in Kaduna during the North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election.

He said the exercise was part of INEC’s six-zone national tour aimed at assessing preparedness, identifying challenges affecting field operations and finding practical solutions before election day.

The INEC chairman said the success of elections was largely determined at the grassroots, particularly at local government areas, Registration Area Centres and polling units.

Amupitan urged staff to use the meeting to highlight challenges affecting election administration and work with the headquarters to address them.

He also warned electoral officials against partisan conduct and administrative negligence, stressing that neutrality and professionalism were essential to maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
