Electoral commission says over 322,000 voter cards have been collected as turnout exceeds expectations.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at the Registration Area (ward) level in Osun State to Friday, July 31, 2026, following the impressive turnout of voters and requests for more time.

The extension was announced in a statement issued by the Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, Rufus Ariyo.

According to the commission, the ward-level distribution of PVCs commenced on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, and was initially scheduled to end on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

INEC disclosed that 322,822 PVCs, representing 62 per cent of the available voter cards, have so far been collected by registered voters across the state.

The commission explained that the extension became necessary due to the large crowds recorded at collection centres, complaints from members of the public and other logistical challenges encountered during the exercise.

INEC noted that the extension will not affect the scheduled commencement of PVC collection at its Local Government Area (LGA) offices, which will hold from August 1 to August 7, 2026.

The electoral body urged all registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the extended period and obtain their cards ahead of the forthcoming elections.

It reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
