Electoral commission says exercise will test BVAS functionality in 12 local government areas before the August 15 poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to conduct a mock accreditation exercise ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State to assess its level of preparedness.

In a statement signed by Ariyo Rufus, Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, the commission said the exercise is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, and will take place at designated polling units across 12 local government areas in the state’s three senatorial districts.

The selected local government areas are Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun and Boripe in Osun Central Senatorial District; Egbedore, Ede North, Ede South and Ejigbo in Osun West; and Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Oriade and Obokun in Osun East.

INEC explained that the exercise is designed to test the functionality and efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) under conditions similar to those on Election Day.

The commission, however, clarified that there will be no voting during the mock accreditation exercise.

It urged all registered voters in the selected polling units to participate with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive governorship election in Osun State.
