Judiciary Says Hossein Pedaran Provided Mossad With Information on Missile Sites in Isfahan
Iranian authorities have executed a man accused of providing information about Iranian missile sites to Israel, the country’s judiciary announced on Saturday.
The judiciary identified the man as Hossein Pedaran and said he had provided Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency with information about missile sites in Isfahan province, central Iran.
Pedaran was accused of “espionage and intelligence collaboration” on behalf of Israel, according to the authorities.
The judiciary said the death sentence had been upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court before the execution was carried out. It did not disclose when Pedaran was arrested or tried.
The case had not previously been reported in Iranian media.
The execution comes amid an increase in arrests and executions by Iranian authorities linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict and nationwide protests.
Several Iranian missile sites have been targeted in strikes during the conflict, while Isfahan province, which hosts nuclear facilities, has been among the areas affected.
In August, Iranian authorities announced the executions of two other men accused of transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites to Israel.
Rights groups say Iran has one of the highest execution rates in the world, second only to China.
