The Federal Government will commence the rehabilitation of damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the development followed an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The two-week project, directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, was initially scheduled to begin in August but was suspended to allow for further traffic management planning following concerns over the short notice.
The rehabilitation involves the replacement of deteriorating expansion joints to improve road safety, structural integrity and traffic flow along the busy corridor. The work is expected to be completed by September 22.
To minimise disruption, one half of the affected section will be closed at a time, while motorists will use the remaining half under controlled traffic arrangements.
The Lagos State Government urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, exercise patience and cooperate with traffic managers to ensure the repairs are completed within the scheduled two weeks.
