The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned residents against using rolling skate shoes and other wheeled footwear on highways and other busy roads across the state.
The agency said the use of such footwear on roads exposes users, particularly children and other vulnerable road users, to the risk of being struck by moving vehicles.
In a statement on Sunday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA said the danger was particularly high when users attempted to glide alongside traffic, cross carriageways or manoeuvre through busy roads.
The warning covers highways, expressways, bridges, service lanes and other vehicular corridors across Lagos State.
LASTMA urged parents, guardians, schools and caregivers to discourage children and other vulnerable persons from using rolling skate shoes and similar wheeled footwear for recreation on roads.
The agency advised that such activities should instead be restricted to safe, designated areas away from vehicular traffic.
