Hospital says rescued schoolchildren are responding well to treatment following their release from 56 days in captivity.
The Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, has announced the discharge of 31 of the 39 pupils rescued from captivity following the abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Olakulehin disclosed that the children were certified medically fit and have since been reunited with their families after undergoing treatment and evaluation at the hospital.
According to him, eight of the rescued pupils remain under medical observation and will continue receiving treatment to ensure their complete recovery.
“The discharge of the 31 pupils marks another significant milestone in the rehabilitation process. The remaining children will continue to receive the best possible medical care until they are certified fit to return home,” he said.
The hospital assured parents and members of the public that the welfare of all the rescued children remains a top priority, adding that specialists are closely monitoring both their physical and psychological well-being as part of their post-rescue rehabilitation.
The pupils were among those abducted during the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area and were rescued after spending 56 days in captivity.
Governor Seyi Makinde formally received the rescued victims on Monday and commended security agencies for their efforts in securing their release.
The governor subsequently called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction, stating that such a probe would help establish the full facts of the incident and strengthen public confidence.
However, the Senate and the Presidency have opposed the call, insisting that Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, possesses the capacity to investigate and address its internal security challenges.
