25-Year-Old Suspect Excreted 72 Cocaine Wraps After Arrest at Enugu Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 25-year-old businessman at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for allegedly attempting to traffic cocaine to Portugal.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday, September 25, while preparing to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Portugal through Addis Ababa.

The NDLEA said the suspect had ingested 72 wraps of cocaine and was placed under excretion observation after his arrest. He subsequently excreted all the wraps.

According to the agency, the suspect previously operated a car decoration business in Lagos before relocating to Portugal in 2023. He recently returned to Nigeria and got married on September 13.

The NDLEA said he told investigators that he allegedly became involved in drug trafficking to offset expenses incurred during his wedding.

In a separate operation at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, NDLEA officers seized 2.55 million pills of Tramaking and Royal Tapentadol in three consignments from India and Bangladesh.

The agency also reported the seizure of 262.5kg of cannabis in Bauchi, the destruction of two cannabis farms in Edo and the arrest of two women with 3.4kg of cannabis in Lagos.

In Oyo State, two Togolese nationals were arrested with 305.6kg of cannabis allegedly being transported from Ghana, while five suspects were arrested at the Seme border with 420 cartons of nitrous oxide weighing 1,688.4kg.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers involved in the operations and urged personnel to sustain drug control and public awareness efforts across the country.
