Oba Khalid Oyedepo Calls for Calm, Community Watch and Prompt Reporting of Suspicious Activities
The Okere of Sakiland, Oba Dr. Surv. Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, has urged residents of Saki and adjoining communities to remain vigilant but not panic following a nationwide security alert over possible terrorist attacks.
The monarch called for calm, stressing that there was no immediate cause for alarm.
His appeal followed an alert by the Nigeria Police Force to its formations nationwide over intelligence indicating possible attacks on schools, places of worship, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.
Oba Oyedepo urged traditional and religious leaders, community stakeholders, parents, school authorities and residents to act as watchdogs within their communities.
He warned against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear, while stressing the need for cooperation with security agencies.
“There is no cause for alarm, but we must not take security for granted,” the monarch said.
He urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, activities or movements to the relevant authorities.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Timely information and cooperation can help prevent threats,” he added.
The Okere also advised residents to continue their legitimate activities peacefully while remaining alert to developments within their communities.
