Governor Inuwa Yahaya orders probe, pledges medical care for injured workers after fatal accident at new Assembly Complex.

One construction worker has died and seven others sustained injuries after a section of the new Gombe State House of Assembly Complex collapsed on Friday.

The accident occurred when a cantilevered entrance canopy under construction suddenly gave way, trapping several workers beneath the debris.

The Gombe State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Danladi Adamu, noting that emergency responders immediately launched rescue operations.

According to the ministry, five of the injured workers are receiving treatment at the Danladi Adamu,l, while two others are being treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and directed the state government to cover the medical expenses of all injured workers.

He also ordered an immediate investigation into the structural failure, with the Ministry of Works and relevant engineering and emergency agencies tasked with determining the cause of the collapse.

The government warned that anyone found guilty of negligence or the use of substandard materials would face appropriate sanctions, stressing its commitment to upholding safety and engineering standards on public infrastructure projects.

Construction activities at the affected section of the multi-million naira Assembly Complex have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
