The All Progressives Congress has withdrawn its petition challenging the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, barely 24 hours after the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal displayed the suit.
The APC and the Peoples Democratic Party had separately filed petitions challenging the outcome of the election in suits EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026 and EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026 on Saturday.
The APC petition was filed by its counsel, Barrister Oluseyi Oyagbile, who submitted it at the tribunal alongside the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Kayode Adereti, and other party leaders.
However, a legal team led by Abiodun Layonu, SAN, subsequently disowned the petition, insisting that the APC was not challenging the election result.
Confirming the withdrawal, Oyagbile told The Nation on Tuesday that party leaders had instructed him to withdraw the suit.
“My client and leaders of APC reached out to me this morning to withdraw the petition I filed on their behalf, I have withdrawn the petition.
“Before I do so, I made them send WhatsApp messages to me giving the instruction so that it will not be a matter of controversy again,” he said.
Oyagbile maintained that Adereti had signed the petition alongside other APC leaders and executives at the tribunal on Saturday.
