Government Orders 24-Hour Security Alert, Urges Vigilance and Timely Intelligence Sharing
The Osun State Government has approved the establishment of a Joint Security Task Force to strengthen the state’s response to emerging threats to lives and property.
The decision was reached at the State Security Council meeting convened on Wednesday by Governor Ademola Adeleke and presided over by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi.
The new Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, and other security commanders attended the meeting.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Alimi, the government pledged to provide the necessary logistics for the effective take-off of the task force and improved security operations across the state.
Adewusi, accompanied by the Attorney General, Wole Jimi-Bada; Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina; and Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo, conveyed Adeleke’s appreciation to security commanders for their efforts during recent security challenges.
He said the governor remained committed to further empowering security agencies and urged traditional rulers to sustain their local security oversight.
The council also moved to reassure residents that Osun remained safe, while urging the public to remain vigilant, particularly around churches, mosques and schools.
Residents were encouraged to promptly share useful intelligence with security agencies to help prevent possible attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits.
The Nigeria Police and other security agencies were directed to maintain a 24-hour alert across the state.
The Ministry of Justice, Nigeria Police and Department of State Services (DSS) also agreed to collaborate to ensure suspects are properly investigated and prosecuted without unnecessary delays.
The council commended Zungura for introducing policing reforms since assuming office and for personally attending the security meeting.
