Senior Advocate of Nigeria secures 12,317 votes to defeat two rivals in the association’s electronic election.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), becoming the first woman to lead the legal body.
Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious after polling 12,317 votes in the association’s presidential election, representing 47.18 per cent of the 26,106 ballots cast.
The election, conducted electronically, commenced at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday and concluded at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday.
The only female among the three presidential candidates, Badejo-Okusanya defeated her closest challengers to secure the NBA’s top office and will succeed the outgoing president, Afam Osigwe (SAN).
Her victory marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian legal profession, with many describing it as a historic moment for gender inclusion and leadership within the Bar.
Final election results released by the Electoral Committee of the NBA confirmed that Badejo-Okusanya secured the highest number of votes to clinch the coveted position.
