Party accuses Makinde administration of undermining local government autonomy, vows not to participate in planned council elections.
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its decision to boycott the local government elections scheduled for December 2026, describing the exercise as illegal, ill-conceived, and designed to serve narrow political interests.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, the APC argued that the planned election raises serious concerns about the future of grassroots democracy and local government administration in the state.

The party also accused Governor Seyi Makinde of failing to demonstrate commitment to local government autonomy, alleging that his administration continues to exert undue influence over the affairs and resources of the state’s 33 local government councils.
According to the APC, participating in the election would amount to legitimising a process it considers flawed and contrary to democratic principles.
The development sets the stage for heightened political tensions in Oyo State as preparations for the December council polls gather momentum.
