The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEChas urged political parties participating in the December 29, 2026 local government elections to strictly adhere to the revised timetable for the polls.

The OYSIEC Chairman, Dr Afees Adeniyi, gave the charge after the commission’s meeting in Ibadan, while commending registered political parties for their cooperation towards a successful election.

Adeniyi said parties and other stakeholders must take note of amendments to the timetable and comply with the stipulated dates and activities to ensure a smooth electoral process.

He disclosed that participating parties had collected and submitted the required data forms and particulars of their nominated candidates, adding that the deadline for the withdrawal and replacement of withdrawn candidates is September 30OYSIEC Urges Parties to Adhere to Revised Timetable for December 29 Council Polls

According to him, the revised timetable followed a request by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Oyo State, for an extension of the period for party primaries to accommodate parties that had yet to conclude their primaries by the initial July 27 deadline.

The OYSIEC chairman also announced that the activity previously titled “Screening of Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates of Political Parties” had been changed to “Screening and Publication of the Personal Particulars of Candidates Nominated by Political Parties.”

Adeniyi urged political parties and other stakeholders to sustain their cooperation towards ensuring a credible, peaceful and transparent local government election in the state., 2026.
