The death toll from multiple road crashes along the Hawan Kibo Road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has risen to 21.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau, Corps Commander Adelaja Ogungbemi, disclosed the figure after visiting the scene on Saturday with the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Joseph Udoabba.

The crashes occurred on Friday evening after a truck reportedly suffered brake failure and rammed into vehicles travelling towards Jos.

The accident involved a truck, a Hummer bus and a motorcycle. The Hummer bus caught fire following the collision, trapping several victims inside.

After assessing the scene, the FRSC officials urged motorists to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles were properly maintained.

They particularly advised vehicle owners to conduct regular checks on critical components, especially braking systems, to prevent avoidable crashes.

The FRSC has continued to manage traffic around the scene while facilitating the removal of the damaged vehicles and recovery of victims.
