Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season on Monday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute, finishing from close range after Eberechi Eze and Riccardo Calafiori combined to create the opportunity.
The victory gave Mikel Arteta’s side maximum points from their opening two matches without conceding a goal, strengthening their early title credentials.
The match also marked Arteta’s 250th Premier League game in charge of Arsenal. New signing Ezri Konsa made his debut against his former club after completing a £51 million move from Villa.
Arsenal will face their first major test of the season on Sunday when they host Chelsea, who have also won their opening two league matches.
For Villa, the defeat extended a difficult start under Unai Emery, following their 4-0 loss to Brighton in the opening game. The club has undergone significant changes during the summer, with several key players leaving.
Arsenal’s only concern was a late injury to Declan Rice, who was forced to leave the pitch after appearing to suffer a knock.
