Federal Road Safety Corps warns motorists against excessive speed after a Lexus car collided with a motorcycle in Ogun State.
Two persons have lost their lives in a road accident along the Leme axis of the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the fatal crash, which occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Monday, was caused by excessive speeding.
According to the FRSC Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsin, the accident involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU.
“A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, two adult males died, while the other occupants escaped without injuries,” Odunsin said.
He disclosed that FRSC rescue operatives received a distress call at 5:50 p.m. and arrived at the scene within five minutes to commence rescue operations.
The bodies of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, while personal belongings recovered from the scene, including a mobile phone and an identity card, were secured by officials.
The command also cleared the accident scene to restore the free flow of traffic along the busy highway.
Reacting to the incident, Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to obey speed limits and avoid reckless driving.
“Speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes. Drivers and motorcyclists must remain vigilant at all times,” he said.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to safer roads through enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and rapid emergency response services, urging Nigerians to report accidents through its toll-free emergency number, 122.
