Tributes pour in as actor Kunle Afod announces the passing of the beloved Yoruba movie icon and pastor.

The Yoruba movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado.

The Nollywood icon reportedly passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, after a brief illness. His death was confirmed by fellow actor Kunle Afod in a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram on Tuesday.

Announcing the sad news, Afod described the late actor as one of the legends of the Yoruba film industry whose contributions would never be forgotten.

Elegbeje Ado was widely regarded as one of the most respected figures in the Yoruba film industry. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he captivated audiences with memorable performances, particularly in roles portraying traditional rulers, community elders and other culturally significant characters.

Beyond acting and filmmaking, Adeshina was also a Christian minister, combining his passion for the screen with pastoral duties throughout his lifetime.

His passing has triggered an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders, who have continued to celebrate his remarkable legacy and immense contribution to the growth of indigenous Yoruba filmmaking.
