The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Abimbola Adekanmbi, has said he is not a surrogate of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Adekanmbi, a former Commissioner for Finance, stated this during an interview on Arise News on Tuesday.
He said he had his own manifesto and strategy for governing the state and would take full responsibility for his decisions and actions if elected.
Adekanmbi said he was prepared to chart his own course rather than inherit the political liabilities of the incumbent governor.
“I’m no surrogate to Governor Makinde. The governor made it clear that I shouldn’t inherit his enemies or liabilities. I’m owning every action I take as governor, just as I have always owned my actions in life,” he said.
He added that his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate was part of a broader process involving consultations and public engagements across the state.
Adekanmbi said the process was not based on a decision taken solely by Makinde, stressing that different sectors and regions contributed to the emergence of candidates.
“The governor did not sit in his office and simply drop a list. There was a process that led to the emergence of all the candidates,” he said.
He added that the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates emerged through consultations and consensus.
