Vice President Leads Nigerian Delegation as Abuja Seeks Stronger Trade, Investment and Economic Ties
Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New Delhi, India, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
Shettima is leading a high-level Nigerian delegation to the summit, which is focused on strengthening cooperation among BRICS member and partner countries.
The summit, themed “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” will open with a closed-door session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” for core members.
The programme also includes a tour of the Bharat Innovates Exhibition, a joint tree-planting ceremony and a gala dinner hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is expected to hold several bilateral meetings.
Nigeria’s participation is aimed at deepening its relations with BRICS countries and creating opportunities for trade, investment, technology and economic cooperation.
Members of the Nigerian delegation include Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Industry, Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole, Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Minister Bosun Tijani, and Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal.
Other senior government officials are also accompanying the Vice President to the summit.
The Federal Government is expected to use the platform to engage leaders and representatives of major emerging economies while advancing Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests.
